I've recently been working on my 2014 Powersheets from Lara Casey. If you've never heard of these and you're a crazy planner/list-maker like myself, then you should totally check them out. One of the sections within the Powersheets asks that you select a word for the year; something tied to my goals and underlying vision for the New Year.
Needless to say, I was pretty excited when I stumbled upon this link-up which also prompted me to choose a word to aspire to for 2014.
After giving it some serious thought and reflection, I concluded that my 2014 word would be now. Rarely do I stop to live in the moment. I'm scrambling through the day, cleaning up diaper messes and toys, trying to make dinner with a baby on my hip, juggling laundry and evening commitments all while thinking about how I am going to get tomorrow's, next week's and the following month's tasks completed.
But what if I could just be present right now? If I could focus on where I am now and who I am with now in that very moment, I think I'd be more efficient, productive, impactful. And if I'd stop living for tomorrow, next week and the following month I think I'd find that I would be less stressed, worried and overwhelmed.
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:13-15
